Schiebinger’s findings were recently published in her new book Secret Cures of Slaves: People, Plants, and Medicine in the 18th-century Atlantic World . “Secret Cures of Slaves” represents only one of the many topics Schiebinger takes up here. While the cures and the healing practiced by enslaved peoples in the Caribbean do make up a part of two chapters, Schiebinger sets these practices within a multi-faceted study of what she terms the “Atlantic World medical complex” (p.3) from 1760 to about 1810.
